Complaints against clergy and Lay People

The Anglican Diocese of Bendigo expects the highest standards of professional service from its clergy and lay people.

If you have a complaint please phone 1800 135 246 (free call)

The diocese is a full participant in the uniform professional standards scheme managed by an independent professional standards organisation, Kooyoora.

A phone call to the above number will mean that your complaint will be handled by the staff of Kooyoora who operate professional standards for the Anglican Dioceses of Bendigo and Melbourne.

This is an independent, objective process adopted by the Anglican Diocese of Bendigo in 2016.

  1. calling the recorded information line at any time on 1800 997 747

  1. emailing the Director at DoES@melbourneanglican.org.au.*

Please include in the subject line of your email “Director of Episcopal – Confidential”.

The Director of Episcopal Standards responds to all complaints of misconduct including, but not limited to, sexual, physical, spiritual or emotional abuse by the Bishop.

The aim is to resolve complaints as quickly as possible. There are different ways of dealing with complaints — informally, formally or referring the matter to a child protection authority or to the Police.

If the formal process as outlined in the Episcopal Standards Act 2015 is used, the Director advises the Episcopal Standards Committee (ESC) which investigates the matter.

* The Director of Episcopal Standards is the same for the Diocese of Melbourne as it is for the Diocese of Bendigo, hence the Melbourne email address.
